Position:  Senior Manager, Tax Asia
Reports to: AVP, Tax Asia
Business Unit: Regional Controllers

JOB SUMMARY:

As a multinational organization within the financial services industry. The organization and its subsidiaries are exposed to income tax legislation in a number of jurisdictions. The Tax Department within the Regional Office coordinates and provides direction to the group’s tax function in its Asia operations.

The senior manager tax will provide support in addressing key accountabilities, in particular, the preparation of tax analysis, compliance support and the review and on going maintenance of deferred tax accounting for operations in Asia (excluding Japan)., and also be responsible for supporting the business operation with the tax issues and planning opportunities in Asia.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Develop a superior understanding of tax legislation and tax administration in each jurisdiction in which the organization operates in Asia. Assist with evaluating the tax effectiveness of each of the operations and develop recommendations to improve the after tax results of existing operations.
  • Liaise with offices across the region to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of tax compliance through regular review of local tax laws, close coordination with local tax/finance personnel and external tax advisors.
  • Coordinate and work with the local BU, Regional Controllers and Corporate Tax to gather, consolidate, review and submit monthly and quarterly tax accounting information in local GAAP, CGAAP and USGAAP. Assist with driving the enhancement of the tax provision and analysis process in Asia.
  • Coordinate and work with local BU’s in handling tax enquiries and supporting tax audits across the region as required.
  • Assist with research and analysis of various tax issues as required (e.g., withholding taxes, tax treaties, transfer pricing, structuring, M&A, etc.).
  • Provide tax support to various business/operational units as required (e.g., Human Resources, Investments, Legal, Business Development, etc.)
  • Assist, as required, with various tax issues and projects.
  • Help maintain an up-to-date, accurate, tax database/library.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • A recognized accounting/finance degree. Qualified member of a recognized accounting body.
  • A minimum of 10+ years of work experience with at least 6 years being focused on tax. Experience in a multi-national company or global accounting firm is required.
  • Ability to work independently to identify, analyze and resolve tax related issues. Ability to drive change and make improvements to existing processes.
  • Superior in-depth technical knowledge of tax rules in Asia jurisdictions with ability to apply these rules into the evaluation and development of tax strategies.
  • Experience with the taxation of financial services
  • Knowledge of US GAAP an asset.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across the organization, including working with people in foreign locations.
  • Ability to work well under tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong spoken and written English required.
